Onanna Akter currently works as a Lecturer in the Department of Law and Human Rights at R.P. Shaha University. She holds an M.A. in Historical Studies from Nalanda University, India, under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Scholarship, and an M.A. in South Asian History (Ancient and Medieval, with emphasis on Bengal ) from the University of Dhaka. In 2025, she received the Dean's Merit List of Honour from the Faculty of Arts, University of Dhaka, in recognition of her outstanding academic performance in the M.A. programme, graduating with a CGPA of 3.92/4.00. Her research focuses on historical geography, religious history, and cultural diplomacy, with a particular emphasis on Early Medieval Bengal. She is the author of a book chapter titled Ancient Wisdom, Modern Diplomacy: Exploring Buddhism's Soft Power in Enhancing India–China Bilateral Relations and has presented her research at international academic conferences in India.
